Why GLUE TRAPS are not safe for RATS AND MICE in 2025
A tiny piece of cardboard, fiberboard, or plastic that has been covered in a sticky adhesive is called a glue trap. Any rats, mice and small animal that crosses it or lands on its surface could become entangled in it. Rats and Mice stuck in the glue become even more helpless as a result of their panic and struggle. Their skin, feathers, or fur are frequently torn off by the glue. In a last-ditch effort to get away, some rats and mice chew off their own limbs or break bones. The PICTURES below is a perfect example of that.
People who don't know how to "dispose" of these sentient creatures find the cries of of the rats, mice and small animals to be very distressing. If left unattended, the frightened, wounded animals perish from shock, suffocation, thirst, or blood loss, sometimes days later. The traps' instructions tell customers to place them in the trash, where they risk being crushed and dying. The PICTURE below shows a lizard, frog and bird stuck on a glue trap.
The only "humane" way of terminating a rodent on a glue trap is to give it a single, sharp blow to the head. However, many people may find themselves too scared, squeamish, or disturbed to be able to do this since it demands a strong, unchanging resolve. When discussing their experiences with glue-trapped animals, forum users suggest ways of dispatch such as drowning the animal, leaving it to die on the trap, or discarding the trap with the living animal still attached—all of which would result in intolerable misery.
Under the Glue Traps (Offences) Act 2022, the UK government outlawed the use of glue traps in England, with the exception of users with a government-granted license, in response to lobbying efforts by HSI and other organisations. Other countries, such as Iceland, New Zealand, Ireland, and the Australian state of Victoria, have already banned glue traps. Although these traps are still freely accessible online and at hardware stores, do-it-yourself and garden centres, and corner stores in some countries, the number of nations that have banned them is increasing. The governments of Wales and Scotland have now declared their plans to impose a ban as well.
