What fruits to feed your hamster, rat, mice, guinea pig and squirrel in 2025

Commercial food pellets make it simple to provide your rats with a fresh, wholesome, and well-balanced meal. Rats will not receive the nutrition they require from pellets intended for rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, or other herbivores; instead, they should always be fed food made especially for rats. Rats are omnivores, so you can add tiny amounts of fruits, vegetables, fried eggs, grains, and seeds to their food to give them some variety. These should be included in their daily meal limit rather than added to it, as this could lead to obesity or other health issues. Steer clear of dangerous foods including chocolate, raisins, grapes, walnuts, rhubarb, onions, and citrus fruits. Steer clear of high-fat foods like dairy and sweets. Rats enjoy fatty and sugary foods. Feed your rodents twice a day, in the morning and the evening, as they eat primarily at dawn and twilight and drink primarily at night. Syrian hamster/golden hamster

The golden hamster, often known as the Syrian hamster, is one of the most popular small pet choices. It's often easy to tame, entertaining to watch, and low-maintenance, making it a wonderful first pet. These hamsters are native to northern Syria and southern Turkey, where they live in dry regions. Most Syrian hamsters are golden brown in color with a paler belly. However, selective breeding has resulted in a wide range of color, pattern, and hair length differences.

Their population is deemed threatened in the wild because of habitat loss. However, captive-breeding programs have been in place since the 1930s, both for scientific research and for the pet trade. Because of their popularity as pets, Syrian hamster foods are readily available in most pet stores. Young Syrian or golden hamsters will sometimes tolerate cage mates for a short period of time.

However, as they grow older, they're likely to become more violent, even fighting to the death. It's also a good idea to keep any other pets in the house away from your hamster so they don't get hurt. Syrian hamsters are active at night and sleep during the day. While they are normally peaceful pets, if you keep their enclosure in your bedroom, their midnight activities may keep you awake.

Robovoski hamster

The robo rovski  hamster or Robo hamster is the tiniest and fastest of all hamsters, measuring about the size of a bean when born and no bigger than an adult's thumb, or 2 to 3 inches when fully grown. These cautious small creatures originated in Mongolia's, China's, and Russia's deserts. Dwarf Robo rovski hamsters are curious creatures who dislike being handled. While you stand outside their home, they are content to mingle with their own kind.

Because Roborovski hamsters are nocturnal, which means they awaken at dusk and are most active at night. They are normally kind and only nip on rare occasions, but they are extremely swift and agile, making them challenging to handle. It's best to handle them at a location where they'll be easy to catch if they flee.Robo rovski hamsters are social animals and should be kept in couples or groups of the same gender. When the hamsters are young, it's better to form groups or couples. Never bring a new Robo hamster to a group of existing Robos. , newcomers may not live long enough. Your pets should survive for roughly three years if they are cared for properly. Robo rovski hamsters have a sandy brown back and a white belly in their natural state. This allows them to blend in with their desert surroundings in the wild.

Winter white hamster

Russian dwarf hamsters, another name for winter white dwarf hamsters, are little hamsters with gregarious dispositions. They are often calm and easy to handle as pets, although because of their small size and speed, they can be challenging to manage. The Syrian hamster, which is also frequently kept as a pet, is around half their size. Winter white dwarf hamsters typically weigh between one and two ounces and measure three to four inches in length. They reach adulthood at about two months of age.

Winter white dwarf hamsters spend the most of the year with a grayish-brown coat. However, it turns white in the winter to blend in with the snow. If the hamster isn't exposed to the reduced winter light patterns in captivity, there's no certainty that the coat will change color.

When introduced at an early age, winter white dwarf hamsters can be housed in small groups or in same-sex pairs because they are a relatively social species. However, adult hamsters may fight and become territorial if they are unfamiliar with one another. Moreover, when they grow bigger, some young hamsters raised together may fight and require separation. Additionally, winter white dwarfs should not be among other household pets, such as other hamster species, since this could lead to needless stress and possible harm.
